Redefining Fiber Optic Performance
Diamond's Ultra-low loss fiber optic interconnects represent the pinnacle of performance and reliability in the fiber optics industry. Designed with precision engineering and utilizing the highest quality materials, our connectors achieve exceptional insertion loss (IL) values as low as 0.02 dB*, setting benchmarks far beyond conventional standards.
Active Core Alignment (ACA): The Key to Excellence
Our patented two-component ferrule and proprietary Active Core Alignment technology set the stage for exceptional performance. Diamond’s ferrules are based on a two-component design (composite ferrule) as per IEC61755-3-7/8 Standards, comprising:
- a hard zirconia ceramic sleeve, machined on the outer diameter in tenths of microns of precision combined with
- a ductile titanium insert, serving as a guiding element for the optical fiber.
Based on this ferrule, Diamond has developed a technology to actively align the position of the fiber core to the ferrule axis (Active Core Alignment technology) which is based on two steps:
- First crimping: a circular tool for permanent plastic deformation of the titanium insert in order to adapt the bore diameter to the fiber, reducing the space for the glue to the minimum;
- Second crimping: another tool is used to laterally shift the fiber and thus reduce the core eccentricity to less than 0.125 micrometers.
Recent advancements, including limiting manufacturing tolerances, improved imaging systems and new alignment software, have enhanced this process, enabling connectors like the E-2000® to achieve:
- Average IL as low as 0.02 dB*
- Maximum IL of 0.04 dB on 95% of connections*
Versatility Across Applications
Diamond’s technology is not confined to single-mode fibers at 1550 nm. Our Ultra-low loss fiber optic interconnects excel with short wavelength fibers and polarization maintaining (PM) fibers. Achievements include:
- 0.06 dB average IL and 0.10 dB maximum IL on 95% of connections for 780 nm fibers*
- Exceptional performance with PM fibers, ensuring precision and reliability.
Why Choose Diamond's Ultra-low loss Interconnects?
- Unparalleled Insertion Loss: Achieve minimal IL values for maximum efficiency.
- Wide-ranging Applicability: Compatible with Singlemode (SM), VIS/NIR, and Polarization Maintaining (PM) fibers.
- Proven Performance: Tailored for applications requiring the highest precision.
- Innovation in Design: Continuous advancements in imaging and alignment technologies.
